Joseph J. Kaplon- In Memoriam

Mr. Kaplon is a 1971 graduate of UCLA. He received his Juris Doctorate from UCLA Law School in 1974 and was subsequently admitted to practice in California. Mr. Kaplon immediately began his professional career as an associate with the leading Los Angeles union-side labor law firm of the time, Brundage, Beeson and Pappy, representing labor unions and Taft-Hartley Trust Funds.

He has continued to gain expertise in these areas ever since, with a heavy concentration in the negotiation of collective bargaining agreements in all areas on behalf of the firm’s private and public sector clients, including the entertainment industry, soft drink, health care, and others. Mr. Kaplon is counsel to several locals of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and serves as labor counsel to Joint Council of Teamsters No. 42.

In 2008, Mr. Kaplon completed training at the Pepperdine School of Law Strauss Institute for Dispute Resolution in mediation of employment disputes and has continued to develop his expertise in this field.

Since the formation of the firm on October 1, 1985, Mr. Kaplon has been and remains the managing partner and president of Wohlner Kaplon Cutler Halford & Rosenfeld. Mr. Kaplon is an active member of the Labor and Employment sections of the California Bar, American Bar Association, Los Angeles County Bar Association, International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans and the AFL-CIO’s Lawyers Coordinating Committee.

In his time away from the office, Mr. Kaplon enjoys reading business-related journals, playing racquetball, family time, especially spoiling his grandchildren, and continues to work on his golf game.
